  • Staffed 24 hours a day, the runaway shelter is for teens, aged 13 to 17, who are seeking respite from family problems or find themselves in any dangerous situation.

  • Porter-Leath's Runaway/Homeless Youth Program provides 24-hour support to runaway and homeless youth ages 13-17. Youth are cared for in a safe place and provided shelter, clothing and food by trained professional staff. The program provides peer counseling, educational support and fun events to assist youth in getting off of the streets. They participate in fun activities such as going to the movies, bowling and special events. Youth receive 24-hour support, counseling and mentoring services.

Salvation Army Emergency Family Shelter

  • Emergency Family Shelter provides safe temporary housing for mothers and children experiencing homelessness due to unexpected or emergency situations through daily meals, caring guidance, intensive case management and assistance, and focus on job placement and permanent affordable housing. EFS houses 57 women and children nightly with a maximum stay of up to 90 days.

 

Salvation Army Single Women’s Lodge

  • Single Women’s Lodge, the only specifically designed shelter for single women in Memphis, houses up to 20 of the city’s most vulnerable individuals. Many suffer from mental health issues, substance abuse, job loss or displacement.

  • Faith based shelter for homeless men in Memphis, TN. They serve two full meals a day, offer clothing to the homeless, have a 2500 volume library, and provide nightly chapel services, counseling, a discipleship program, and lodging.

Intact Homeless Family Program

  • Intact Homeless Family Program provides short-term transitional housing for homeless families. This unique ministry allows Memphis Union Mission to minister to families as they reside in a fully-furnished three-bedroom home for three to six months. During this time, the family is allowed to stay without paying for rent or utilities as they work and save enough money to regain self-sufficiency.

 

Dorothy Day Shelter

  • The Dorothy Day House keeps homeless families together, creating a safe haven and a community for entire families. Provides food, clothing, shelter, guidance, education resources, parenting skills, employment counseling, job contacts, transportation, child care referrals, financial advice, budgeting, counseling, clinical case management, and support to permanent housing.

 

Family Promise of Memphis

  • Provides shelter for homeless families with children on a case-by-case basis for up to 30 nights including three meals per day and separate day site with address for use in seeking permanent housing and/or employment. Can shelter up to three families at a time (total of fourteen people including children). Husband and wife stay in same room. Provides intensive case management, life skills programs and food pantry, clothes closet and furniture donations for families receiving assistance. Formerly known as Memphis Interfaith Hospitality Network.

Domestic Violence Shelters:

YWCA Emergency Shelter

  • The YWCA Shelter is a 27-bed facility that provides the only 24-hour, 7-day-a-week emergency shelter to abused women and their children. To protect the safety of our clients, the shelter is in an undisclosed location. Residents of the YWCA shelter are provided with counseling, referrals, and connected with resources that can help them begin their transition to a new life free of abuse.

 

Substance Abuse:

Safe Harbor of Memphis

  • Program requires a six-month commitment. Helps participants secure employment upon exit. Coordination with parole officers and courts are available.

 

Iron on Iron Recovery Program

  • The Iron-On-Iron Program is Memphis Union Mission’s long-term, Christ-centered recovery program for men. It is a one-year intensive residential program, where the emphasis is on healing the total person, recovery from life-controlling problems and preparation for successful living. It consists of three distinct phases, each having a special focus and established goals, and each one conducted at various locations in the Memphis area

 

Moriah House

This ministry accepts up to 15 women and their children and accommodates them in individual suites with private baths.
